'Charge of the Light Brigade' wins the Poetry Recitations Final

Congratulations to Freddy  who won the Poetry Recitations final with ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’. Interestingly, Freddy’s father won the same Cup with the same poem when he was at Ludgrove!

Estella Gutulan, Head of English at Wellington, had the hardest job of the term when she was tasked with judging the final.

Twenty-five boys, from the VIs all the way through to the Top Year, bravely stood on the stage to recite their poems to the whole School. From funny verses like ‘Our Teacher is a Caveman’ to epic odes such as ‘If’, the boys had their audience mesmerised from the start.

After much deliberation, the final placings were announced:

Winner of the Poetry Cup - Freddy with ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’.
Runner up - Marat with ‘The Zode’
Winner of the IIIs - Patrick with ‘I Don’t Like Poetry’
Runner up - Luffy with ‘Batman’
Winner of the Juniors - Xander with ‘The Football Game’
Runner up - Tauyekel with ‘Question Time’

Well done to all the boys who went through the heats, semi-finals and today’s final - Mrs Gore and the English Department are incredibly proud of all your hard work.
